The Colorado Blue Spruce is a popular landscape specimen. It is a medium grower with a high salt tolerance. It is characterized by a dense, regular pyramidal shape with horizontal, stiff branches to the ground and sharp-pointed needles ranging in colour from dark green to blue-green.

This species prefers a moist, well-drained loam and is not tolerant of wet sites. The Fraser Fir is favoured as a Christmas tree for all the same reasons previously cited for Balsam Fir. With a horizontal branching habit, the needles of the fraser fir are shiny and dark green. A slow to medium grower.
